Upholstery Subassembler (Full Time)
Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - Entry Level
Upholstery Subassembler compensation range (based on experience level) $18- $28/hr
Upholstery Subassembler I($18/hr-$21/hr) Use of basic hand and calibrated tools.
Drill out and rivet aircraft parts and subassemblies, including those requiring use of small, portable assembly tools, and layout aids.
Assemble aircraft system parts and accessories using common fasteners such as nuts, bolts, washers and other hardware.
Apply sealants, adhesives, corrosion preventive materials and other compounds as necessary.
Perform basic Eastman operations.
Basic sewing machine setup and operation.
Lower panel and glareshield assembly on PA-28 model aircraft.
Ability to identify and select material based on production orders.
Ability to locate and read detail/minor assembly drawings and PPS with the use of work orders.
Maintain the departments compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.
Rework discrepancies as necessary with guidance from higher level upholsterer.
Report machine/equipment malfunctions to senior assembler or Supervisor.
Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
Maintain compliance with all Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
Perform duties as assigned by supervision.
Upholstery Subassembler II($22/hr-$24/hr) Assemble a wide variety of aircraft parts such as PA-44 lower panels, PA-28 seat frame final buildup, PA-46 carpet kit completion, and glare shield covering, etc.
Ability to distinguish between different types of adhesives and application methods.
Ability to locate and read assembly drawings, and PPS with the use of work orders.
Inspect and buy off own work using Piper inspection certifications, including torque requirements.
Maintain all necessary records, files, and reports per Q.P. and department specific requirements.
Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train , and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
Adhere, maintain and assist teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Upholstery Subassembler III($25/hr-$27/hr) Assemble aircraft parts requiring a high level of precision and risk such as luxury PA-28 panels, and PA-46 panels, doors, and seats.
Ability to perform detailed drawing and specification research based on work orders and top drawings.
Conduct training of team members to attain acceptable levels of performance.
Inspect and approve own work and other team members work using Piper inspection certifications.
Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
Assist the department in maintaining effective Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs. Assist with audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper requirements.
Rework major discrepancies as necessary. Performs Material Review Board and Standard repairs when needed. Assist in troubleshooting parts issues with the department or on the assembly lines when needed.
Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Senior Upholstery Subassembler ($28/hr) Interact with Team Members & Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing.
Act as a technical liaison between team members & Pipers manufacturing support teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, FAA etc. when appropriate .
Assist with root cause and corrective action of nonconforming material in order to reduce defects and scrap material.
Interface within the department to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Serves as lead with the ability to guide and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action , or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.
Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent
Related upholsterer experience requirements:
o Upholsterer I: 1 year of experience
o Upholsterer II: 1 - 2 years of experience
o Upholsterer III: 2 - 5 years of experience
o Senior Upholsterer: 5 years of experience
Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Use of hand and power tools as required
Follow all safety procedures
Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions.
