Salary: The hiring range for this position is $64,540 - $108,451. The actual starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience in accordance with the current Senate compensation guidelines.

Telework: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session (January-May). When the legislature is not in session, flexible hybrid options may be available.

Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-4:30pm and irregular hours during the legislative session.

Closing Date: This position will close on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 4:00pm.

The TV Director/Editor will lead the production team in studio, field, and committee productions. Serve as chief videographer and editor for field productions. Operate studio, control room, and field production equipment. Possess the ability to do minor equipment and situational troubleshooting with or without the assistance of engineering staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

TV Director

Percentage of Time: 50%

  • Direct/Technical Direct live and in-studio productions.
  • Assign crew positions and supervise them during studio productions.
  • Maintain an understanding of all Senate Media production equipment including production switchers, robotic cameras, ENG and cinema field cameras, graphic systems, digital recording equipment, audio mixing consoles, production-related software, and software required for recording remote web-based meetings.
  • Provide creative input to producers during event production process.

Chief Videographer

Percentage of Time: 25%

  • Act as director for remote field productions.
  • Setup and operate field camera.
  • Setup and operate field audio.
  • Setup television lighting as needed.
  • Lead any assistants who may be working on the project.

Editor

Percentage of Time: 25%

  • Perform final video editing using non-linear edit system(s).
  • Provide final editorial oversight to all finished editing projects.
  • Provide creative input to producers.
  • Design and create motion graphics as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Engineering and Operations in developing post-production capabilities.
  • Assist in development of operating procedures to improve post-production and live productions.
  • Work with other production staff to increase departmental depth with regard to post-production.

Time spent on job responsibilities may vary throughout the year and may be dependent on the Senate session.

Minimum Requirements:

Four-year college degree, or equivalent education through experience, with emphasis in television production and visual communication.

OR

Three years' experience in broadcast, cable, or industrial television production. Fluency in operations of non-linear video editing system(s). Broadcast news experience is a plus.

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 25 pounds and occasionally manipulate electronic news gathering equipment (such as camera, tripod, storage bag, and lighting) to efficiently manage field productions.
