The Department of Pediatrics employs nearly 1,000 faculty and staff who work alongside employees of Riley Hospital for Children and students of IU School of Medicine to make Riley Children's Health Indiana's largest and most skilled pediatric system. Job Summary

The Division of Children's Health Services Research, within the Department of Pediatrics at IU School of Medicine (IUSM), is seeking a technical writer at Indiana University campus in Indianapolis to provide scientific writing support for faculty, staff, and student researchers. In this role, the writer would assist with all aspects of the writing process to help produce high quality scholarly materials, especially to facilitate federal grant application submissions.

Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Serves as a liaison between external funding agencies, corporate entities, non-profit sector, and other universities to help establish and support proposal teams.
  • Coordinates information flow among proposal team members, organizes and integrates proposal components, reviews proposals for consistency with agency guidelines, and assures timely submission of multiple proposals at the same time.
  • May assist with developing print and/or online publications or public presentations of results from research by applying critical thinking to acquired scientific and medical knowledge.
  • May provide guidance/oversight to hourly employees.
General Responsibilities
  • Works with key stakeholders to determine needs, reviews proposal requirements, organizes and creates assignments, and ensures adherence to deadlines.
  • Writes and prepares various technical documents such as research/grant proposals and applications for submission to funding and regulatory agencies including writing and/or editing ideas, abstracts, protocols and consents, study reports and appendices, or other regulatory documents.
  • Contributes to overall project management and cross-functional working groups to facilitate development and finalization of assigned documents; ensures quality and consistency among formatting and style.
  • Collects information on reported problems regarding consistency and/or clarity in proposals and manuscripts; amends proposals as needed/required; maintains version control for all documents.
  • Contributes to and participates in meetings with the various research groups within the department; communicates with writing project stakeholders; ensures coordination of communication between stakeholders and supports overall collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Prioritizes writing projects and provides a tracking mechanism on requests and includes estimated timelines, projects in progress, estimated completion dates, and duration of projects; follows standard procedures and processes for the optimal workflow of requests. and projects.
  • Develops print and/or online publications or public presentations of results from research by applying critical thinking to acquired scientific and medical knowledge.
  • Provides expertise on regulatory requirements and ensures assigned documents are produced in accordance with such guidance and relevant internal metrics; provides suggestions for process improvements and may provide guidance/oversight to hourly employees.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in English or related field
Preferred
  • Master's Degree in a scientific or health related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years in English or related field
Preferred
  • 2 years of experience in scientific writing, grant writing, or working in a health or life sciences field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

$60,000 - $70,000 per year based on experience, skill level, education, and training.

Indianapolis, Indiana

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
