Summary

This position is located in the Compliance and Investigations Division (CID), Office of Investigation, Enforcement and Audit (OIEA). CID investigates violations of food safety, food defense, and other consumer protection statutory requirements; controls unsafe or violative products through detentions, civil seizures, and voluntary recalls; and develops cases through surveillance and investigation activity to ensure that appropriate criminal, administrative, and civil sanctions are carried out.

* Exercises complete responsibility and authority for supervision of investigators who perform a full range of public health regulatory, food defense, and other consumer protection program activities in their sub-region.

* Maintains close working relationships and liaisons with appropriate Agency staff; other government food safety and food defense agencies; state, local, national, and international -level officials; etc.

* Supervises investigators conducting complex investigations, and plans, schedules, and conducts ongoing surveillance of industry operations.

* The program supervised is designed to protect the public health through surveillance and investigation of in-commerce establishments for conformance to appropriate food safety standards.

* Leads a workforce whose activities include: the surveillance of businesses that slaughter livestock and poultry and/or process meat, poultry, and egg products, buy, sell, transport, and store meat, poultry, and egg products, etc.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade: Applicants must meet one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-12 grade level for consideration for the GS-13 grade level.)

* Maintaining working relationships with Agency staff and regulated industry contacts and effectively communicating technical, regulatory, enforcement information and issues orally or in writing.

* Influencing, motivating, and challenging others through leadership roles such as supervising, mentoring, training, or leading a team or project.
