Job Description

Overview: My client is looking for an Environmental Compliance Specialist to join their solar renewable energy team. The successful candidate will have a solid foundation in environmental science, regulatory adherence, and sustainability practices. This role involves ensuring that all solar energy projects meet environmental regulations, performing site inspections, and aiding in the execution of environmental management plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations and standards for solar energy projects.
  • Assist in securing necessary permits and approvals for renewable energy installations.
  • Stay informed about evolving environmental laws and regulations from agencies such as CEQA, CDFW, AQMD, RWCQB, USACE, and EPA.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and coordinate biological, cultural, archaeological, and tribal surveys or monitoring.
  • Oversee construction and operational activities to identify and mitigate potential environmental impacts, including SWPPP, SPCC, and CSI BMP.
  • Maintain accurate records of environmental inspections, audits, and compliance activities for regulatory submissions.
  • Support the implementation of environmental management plans and best practices for renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborate with project teams to incorporate environmental considerations into project planning and execution.
  • Provide training on environmental compliance policies and procedures.
  • Support internal audits and environmental compliance programs.
  • Participate in the investigation and response to environmental incidents and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
  • Respond to environmental incidents, such as spills or releases, and coordinate mitigation efforts.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate environmental compliance efforts to stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, community groups, and the public.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to take ownership and accountability.
  • Excellent reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Positive and proactive attitude.
  • Experience with environmental safety and standards assessment and design.
  • Professional interaction with AHJs, clients, colleagues, and the public.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring, sampling, and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Proficiency in using environmental monitoring equipment and software.
  • Excellent record-keeping skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of hazardous waste for operational/emergency response plans.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science or environmental engineering.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in the renewable energy, solar, or construction industry.
